Calvin Klown's Story

Calvin was born December 10, 1981. His parents, Papa "KELLO" and Mama "BUTTONS", were very proud. They took Calvin to his first parade in Delray Beach Florida the very next day to show him off. Kello spent three hours the night before the parade teaching Calvin how to apply his makeup.

Calvin spent the first weeks of his young life without a name. Mama and Papa's wigs were too tight and they could not think of an appropriate name. When Calvin was just two week's old Mama and Papa took him to do a Christmas Eve hospital visit. While Papa was off in another room Mama took Calvin to a room to measure a lady for a hospital gown. He was using the cutouts of little feet sewn together to measure. As he went up to this nice lady to measure her, she seemed frightened of him. Buttons quickly said to her, "don't worry mam, he's just another Calvin Klown", with reference to the guy who does the clothes. It was there and then that Calvin Klown got his name. Over the next several years Calvin worked hard to improve his skills in clowning. Watching Kello and Buttons work and attending many seminars all over the country. He learned how to do magic, balloon sculpturing, stilt walking, clown unicycle (one with training wheels), and many more things.

In 1996 Calvin made his Mama and Papa proud when he was selected Clown of the Year by C.O.A.I*.

Calvin has moved away from Mama and Papa to Raleigh, NC. but he still remembers how much fun it was learning from them. Calvin has started teaching young people the Art of clowning at a camp he started in 1992. It is called Camp Clown'n Around, inc. and runs at several locations in the Raleigh area. Check out the Camp Clown'n Around tab.

Calvin is grateful to Kello and Buttons for what they have helped him to be. Mamas and Papas are very special people in all our lives and no one should ever forget what they have given of themselves for us.
